Dr. Tamelyn Tucker-Worgs to deliver a speech entitled "Answering the Knock at Midnight: Martin Luther King Jr.'s Legacy in the Contemporary Black Church" at 1 pm on January 20th. Dr. Tucker-Worgs is author of the book, "The Black Megachurch: Theology, Gender, and the Politics of Public Engagement. Her book received the W.E.B. DuBois Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientist. In addition to contextualizing Martin Luther King's challenge to the Black church to “answer the knock at midnight” and progressively engage in public life, Tucker-Worgs will discuss the faith-based community development in today’s churches—where it works, where it fails, and how gender plays a role. Tucker-Worgs is a political science professor at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. We invite you to join us as we engage with this scholar’s groundbreaking work. Reverend Vincent Harris and Johns Hopkins Politcal Science Professor Lester Spence to respond to Dr. Tucker-Worgs remarks. Book signing and reception to follow.
